First or Third

Jerry Manual has said that he is thinking about batting Jose Reyes 3rd this year until Carlos Beltran returns from injury.

Why mess up what is good? Reyes is a leadoff hitter and always should be. He is fast. He gets on base. Why move him. Reyes has said that he wants to leadoff so they should lead him off. If Reyes is to bat 3rd the lineup would look like this:

  1. Angel Pagan
  2. Luis Castillo
  3. Jose Reyes
  4. David Wright
  5. Jason Bay
  6. Jeff Francourer
  7. Daniel Murphy
  8. Rob Barajas
  9. Pitcher

Here is my lineup:

  1. Jose Reyes
  2. Daniel Murphy
  3. David Wright
  4. Jason Bay
  5. Jeff Francouer
  6. Angel Pagan
  7. Luis Castillo
  8. Rob Barajas
  9. Pitcher

I like this because Reyes leads off and also Murphy hits second. I think this will be a bounce back year for Murphy. I think eventually he will be a .300 hitter. I like him second because he is really good 2 strike hitter so that Reyes can steal and also he can get on base a lot ahead of Wright and Bay. He also should see a lot of fastballs since he is ahead of them which is good for a young Murphy who is still finding his way in this league.

you think murphy will make the team? what about a mike jacobs/fernando tatis platoon? i’m really not a fan of murphy as i don’t think he adds much to the team. at least jacobs/tatis could have add some power. jacobs would have to be replaced late in the game due to his below average defense. add why drop castillo to 7th? he gets onbase and has fine base running speed (not base stealing speed) in front of wright, bay and eventually beltran. he is not valuable in the 7 spot…

Murphy will definitely make the team. He hasn’t been in the minors since mid 2008. Jacobs hits .100 against lefties and Tatis just doesn’t hit. I like Jacobs off the bench to give a power hitter to hit for Castillo or someone late in the game.
