Don’t Count on Escobar, Mejia?

Manager Jerry Manual is saying that Kelvim Escobar won’t be counted on early in the season. “I don’t see it right now,” Manuel said. “Hopefully I’m wrong.”

Escobar hasn’t been throwing due to a shoulder weakness and might begin the season on the DL says the Daily News.

This opens  up the question of who will be the 8th inning guy to get to K-Rod. Parnell? Green/Feliciano? Mejia?  Jerry said that he would like to see Mejia be able to do it.

I don’t know if I want Mejia to be the guy. I have to see him first. He is pitching Monday in the intersquad game. Don’t know when he is pitching after that but my guess is that he will start the year in double-A.

…UPDATE 2:37 PM

Rich Coutino of ESPN Radio spoke with Escobar need Escobar said that it will only take him 2 weeks to get ready for the season once he is healthy.

That doesn’t seem long enough considering that the pitchers get a little less then a month and a half to get ready but who knows.
